I went out of town last week to attend a Grand Funk Railroad concert last Friday. I got this message while I was out of town. I do not own a Tango 2 but I did download the manual for it from the TBS site and read it last week. I do find in it statements about starting and connecting the Tango 2 in the manual but nothing about what it can do with it. I use the Radiomaster TX16S and a full-size Crossfire Transmitter and it can connect to my ground station to pass date but I can’t find anywhere in the Tango 2 documentation that the Tango 2 can do the same. I would suggest shooting TBS a short message and asking their support because like I say I don’t have a Tango 2 to test and anything I could say would be a guess. Sorry about that.

Thank you very much for the kind comment. Let me know if you have problems. Also know that many of the new BLHeli and DShot ESC's don’t require calibration and the ArduPilot ESC calibration will fail in various ways. This failure is not a problem because they are self-calibrating.

If you are using INAV it should be good to go for you. If you are using Ardupilot like me, not so much. Tim the plane man gave me a fix for ardupilot that I have not yet tried.

@@nighthawkvs on my 10" long range quad i have inav 7.1, on the 5" betaflight and on the manta i have ardupilot and hoping to make it work with all of them..

I have not yet tested with INAV myself, but those helping me said it should work 100% just as I have mine setup. Tim the plane man told me if I take mavlink out of mission planner it will work. I have not yet tested that either. So IMHO INAV should work 100%, Ardupilot should if the mavelink is taken from mission planner, and I don't think Betaflight does mavelink. All still untested by me. I would love to know IF INAV works the way I have mine setup but have had family problems that prevented me from getting to that yet.

That would really depend on the power of the VTX that it is attached to. The higher its power output the longer the range would be. The antenna is just the final output element of transmission and the antenna itself has little to do with range. All the electronics before the antenna controls range. Other things that would decrease range might be incorrect polarization. Did you replace the original antenna with one of the same polarization? If so then the only way an antenna would reduce range is because it is not properly tuned. Because an antenna needs to work over a range of frequencies manufactures chose to tune their antennas somewhere in the middle of the range of the frequencies, they are intended to work in. This tuning is a physical adjustment to the antenna and it will work best at the tuned frequency. The 5.8 ghz band is composed of about 100 frequencies that an antenna can be tuned to by the manufacture. Those frequencies range from about 5645 ghz to 5945 ghz. Most FPV video transmitters are separated into about 40 channels. If an antenna physically tuned to 5645 ghz is replaced with one tuned to 5945 ghz the range WILL drop. That is why manufactures usually tune for a middle frequency rather than frequencies on either end of the spectrum. And they usually do not tell us the exact frequency they are physical tuned to. If I have not been clear let me know and I will do a video on rf transmission to clear this up.

We got to see it twice I think in the year or so it ran. We thought it needed work, but was passable.

Likely very limited range. Great for the bench, but not so much for flights. Higher power telemetry radios are better for flight.

I can see no problems with any of the autopilot boards I have used. And the below is from both the ArduCopter and ArduPlane documentation: Spektrum RC Systems¶ Any DSM/DSM2 compatible receiver can be used with ArduPilot. Spektrum also makes receivers with SBus, PPM, SRXL and SXRL2 protocols which are also compatible. For a Spektrum DSM, DSM2, or DSM-X Satellite receiver, connect to the SPKT/DSM port (some boards, such as the CUBE mini carrier board, require you to modify solder bridges. See the autopilot board’s documentation)

@@nighthawkvs fc are great. My problem was that my receiver didn’t have SBUS it was S.port. I switched the receiver with a SBUS, wired it to the website and it worked

Cool. The FCs did have 8 or more pwm inputs up until 2011. When the Pixhawk first came out and I got my first one I was dumfounded by the SBUS input being a single input after wiring 8 on my old APM FCs. I used a pwm to Sbus adapter for a couple of years. A pwm encoder might work on the pwm outputs on that other RX. Almost all FCs are input from one wire now. SBUS, CFSF etc. Happy flying!

Thx. Don’t think soldering is an option for us bc need to be able to disassemble plane for transport. Do you know what the issue was with the stereo plug? Was it the wire or the connector? Any idea what was failing in there?

Ok I watched the video and see what your issue was and your fix. We didn’t have that wire running by the connector that blocked your boom from full insertion. So we are at a loss as to why connection not working. Since it’s hidden inside wing difficult to inspect. Trying to avoid cutting it open but may come to that.

After I cut mine open I remembered that if I put the boom in at a small angle it slid up over the coax. If I had it to do over I would cut both stereo jacks off and have one continuous wire from the FC to the tail assembly. Also hard to do if the wire from the FC to the front stereo jack is glued under the cover.

Love to see if yours works. Mine doesn’t seem to like Crossfire Mavlink data. Not sure yet.

Cool. That is what I did after mine pointed straight up and it was after I did a firmware upgrade.

That is all I get. I am using ArduPilot and I have been told that the Mavlink from it is corrupted inside my Crossfire RX. I have not yet tested that. I will be in the future as well as how it works with INAV. Winter is about to pass here and I will be out again testing soon.

Setup a duplicate radio on the platform and configure it the same way. Default baud is 57,600. Set for Mavlink 2 in the flight controller port you have the air unit attached to. You can easily tell when the radios are setup right. Powering them both up will result in a steady green light. They will connect to each other with nothing but power applied. After that it is all in configuration. What FC? What radio set? What uart it the air unit connected to?

@@nighthawkvs the thing is , the ground and air module were connecting with one another with a steady green light but after i updated the firmware via mission planner upload firmware option on the ground module then both of them were not connecting I am using apm2.8 with fsi6x tranmitter and 10 channel receiver Is there a way by which i could reload the previous firmware such that both ground and air module of the telemetry are running on the same firmware

I have had that problem and I flashed both with QGroundControl and it fixed them.

I usually flash them with QGroundControl when that happens to me. And I let it select the firmware automatically.

@@nighthawkvs in order for me to do this i will have to connect the air module via ftdi programmer, currently i don’t have that facility, the air module is untouched, the only modifications i have made are on the ground module So is there any way by which i could load the initial firmware which the telemetry module came standard with. And then hope that because both units are running on same firmware they will connect 😅

It’s still here. It seems that trying to send in the data from a crossfire module corrupts the data to the tracker. I am told that INAV won’t. I have =never flow anything except for ArduPilot. So it is set aside until I setup a INAV platform to test and see if it works with it as it is. Also I have another way to send Mavlink data to it from ArduPlane I will be testing when the weather changes around here.

I got very frustrated with it myself. Then Tim the plane man told me his works with Ardupilot but he feeds the Mavlink data into it another way. So I just pushed it aside for this winter. I was also told it will work well if I use INAV. I was told mine doesn’t work because of the way Crossfire handles Mavlink. Not sure why switching to INAV would fix that. But I do want to test INAV first before I make any changes to it. We had snow and freezing temps here this week, but that hopefully will be our last week of cold weather and I can get back to testing it again soon.

I have another F550 that is about that old that I have flown a lot. I like the platform so I was going to put the new motors and esc's on the old one, but then decided just to build up the new kit.

Thank you so much. It will be really COLD in Nebraska for Pam's mom's birthday, but we will only be there for a short stay. I would rather go during a warmer time so I could fly some drones. It is so flat there you can go for miles.

Yes, but the mavlink data from the crossfire RX on the radio seems to corrupt the data. When the weather changes I will try another way to feed date to it and I think it will work well then.

Then the next day I saw the video about cutting the foam. lol Still have not decided if I will cut the foam or not. I have one vote for cutting it.

That was 8 years ago and that platform isn’t around anymore. But I can tell you. I attached a telemetry radio to my android phone and ran QGroundControl on the phone. In follow me mode it just sends GPS values to the flying platform and it moves toward those values. Really easy.
